What does archiShadow produce?+
A set of sun shadow diagrams from one study saved in the project: for each date and time, the shadow of the model on a horizontal plane as fills on their own layer, a layer combination per date, and a stamp recording the dates, clock convention, UTC offset, latitude and longitude, north and sun algorithm. Optionally a view and a layout per date, with the drawing centred on the sheet.
How is this different from Archicad's 3D Documents?+
A 3D Document shows one date and time, in one colour, and goes stale when the model or Project North changes. A planning submission needs 20 to 40 of them. archiShadow keeps them in one study and regenerates every layer, view and layout in one click.
Which planning rules are covered?+
Presets for the NSW Apartment Design Guide and council DCPs, Victoria ResCode, Western Australia R-Codes, South Australia, ACT, Tasmania, the Auckland Unitary Plan, Wellington, UK BRE 209 and Ireland, each citing its source. You can also set any dates, times and time convention yourself.
Can it show existing and proposed shadows?+
Yes. With renovation status set on the model, the study emits the shadow of the site today (existing plus to be demolished), the proposed shadow, the added shadow and the removed shadow separately, each with its own layer combination. By default the existing shadow is grey, the added shadow in the time colours on top and the removed shadow hatched.
Is archiShadow part of archiTools Core?+
Yes. archiTools Core and archiTools Atelier include every ArchiTools Archicad add-on, archiShadow among them. You can also subscribe to archiShadow on its own, monthly or annually, and cancel anytime.
Which Archicad versions are supported?+
Archicad 27, 28, 29 and 30 on Windows 10/11. It signs in through the free ArchiTools Account add-on, installed in the same Add-Ons folder.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes: a free 7-day trial of the full add-on, one per account and per computer. Sign in from inside Archicad and start it from ArchiTools > ArchiTools Account; no payment details needed.
