archiXML.
Bulk-edit Archicad attributes inside the open project. archiXML docks as an Archicad palette and works through the Tapir add-on, so there's nothing to export and nothing to import back.
No Archicad to hand? It still opens and edits an XML export in the browser: that's the optional offline path, and the fallback for the few things the API can't reach.
No file. Just the open project.
archiXML talks to a running Archicad through the Tapir add-on. It reads and writes the project you already have open, and docks as an Archicad palette, so it sits beside the model rather than in a browser tab. This is how it's meant to be used.
Losing the round trip is the smaller half. The bigger half is what it makes possible at all: comparing two open projects, copying attributes between them, and renaming across every attribute type at once. None of that can be expressed as a file.
Compare two projects
Open your office standard in a second Archicad and diff it against the current project. Matched by name, never by index: indices are per-file.
Copy attributes across
Pull layers, fills, lines, surfaces, building materials, zone categories, composites and layer combinations from the other project into this one.
Find & replace everywhere
Rename across every attribute type in one pass: the thing XML mode structurally cannot do, since each tab is its own file.
Find what's unused
Walk the model and list what nothing references. Removal is offered for layers and zone categories, where usage can be established completely.
Restructure the Layout Book
Import the Layout Book, rearrange subsets and layouts, apply it back. Navigator writes are undoable in Archicad.
Property definitions
Create and delete property groups and definitions, edit expressions, and migrate a property to a new name, group or value type.
How to use.
- Archicad
- 25 – 29
- Tapir add-on
- 1.5.4 or newer
- Python
- Nothing to install
Install the Tapir add-on
archiXML talks to Archicad through Tapir's JSON command set. Version 1.5.4 or newer: most attribute commands landed in 1.5.4.
Run archixml.py from the Tapir palette
Tapir Palette → Add → pick archixml.py → Run. Nothing to install: Tapir already ships uv, and Tapir passes the port of the Archicad that launched it.
Work against the open project
archiXML opens in a docked Archicad palette, already paired. Edits are staged and go in behind an explicit Apply, with a snapshot written first.
Live mode isn't available in the preview below
The editor embedded on this page runs in a frame, and a framed page can't be handed the connection to your machine. Open archiXML on its own origin and the Connect to ArchiCAD… button is there. Chromium and Firefox only in a normal browser: Safari blocks it, though the docked Archicad palette works either way.
Worth knowing: attribute writes aren't undoable in Archicad, which is why archiXML stages edits behind an explicit Apply and writes a snapshot first. Navigator and property writes are undoable. In Teamwork, attribute writes need the Attributes workspace already reserved.
Or work from a file, if you'd rather.
The original round trip is still here and still free: export from Attribute Manager, edit in the browser, import back. Use it when Archicad isn't running, when Tapir isn't installed, or for the handful of things the API can't reach: index surgery and classifications, mainly. Same four editors.
