    FAQ

Frequently asked questions about using archiTransfer.

Answers to the most common questions about archiTransfer. For pre-purchase questions, see the FAQ on the product page.

Rule order matters: how do I know which rule wins?

Rules run top to bottom. If two rules target the same element, the later rule wins. Order matters especially with Favorite-based rules, which replace many properties at once: usually you want those first, with specific property/layer rules after.

What's the difference between a Favorite target and a Layer target?

A Layer target only changes the layer: the element keeps its pen, materials, and other properties. A Favorite target applies the complete Favorite (layer, pen, materials, attributes, properties all at once). Use Favorite when you want full alignment with your template; use Layer for surgical cleanup.

Can I use archiTransfer on elements inside hotlinked modules?

No: hotlinked module contents are read-only from the host file. Open the module file itself, run archiTransfer there, and re-link.

My Preview highlights the wrong elements: what's wrong with my rule?

Most likely a criterion operator mismatch. Example: 'Thickness less than 0.20' matches thin walls, but if you set 'Thickness equals 0.20' it only matches exactly 0.20 m. Open the rule, inspect each criterion's operator, and re-preview.

Can I chain multiple property updates in one rule?

A single rule can change one target (Layer, Favorite, Property, or Classification). For multiple property updates on the same elements, create multiple rules with identical filters and different targets: they'll run sequentially on the preview-highlighted set.

    Where are rule sets saved?

Rule sets are saved as files you can store anywhere: typically a shared team drive. Load them into any new Archicad file that needs the same migration logic. A well-built template-migration ruleset pays for itself on the second project.

Does archiTransfer modify elements I don't have selected?

Only if a rule's filter matches them. The rule's Element Type + Criteria define the scope: selection is ignored. Use Preview to see exactly what will change before applying.

Can I undo the entire rule application?

Yes: Edit > Undo in Archicad reverts the whole apply operation. All rule actions go through the standard undo stack.

Does the Renovation filter apply to all rule types?

Yes: every rule can be restricted by renovation status (Existing to Remain, To be Demolished, New Construction). Useful when merged files mix statuses and you only want to migrate one category.
